27 Mar 1781:41 (8/13 393)
Lines occasioned by the death of the amiable Mr. Thomas-
Desaussure, who was shot in Virginia, by a militia-man, that
mistook him for a British officer. Written (in Baltimore) at
the request of his very intimate friend.
  Ye mourners, of sorrow sincere,
  Emotions of sympathy pour;
  Since Strephon, the shepherd so dear,
  Alas! we must never see thee more.
